- Boards are at the extreme end of the accountability chain. While managers manage staff and programs, “the buck stops at the board.”
- Boards act in both a moral and legal sense, as an agent for the organization’s largely unseen constituency, principals, and/or stakeholders.
- The board is a set of individuals acting as one entity.
- Boards are part-time and tend to be physically removed from the daily operations.
